2013-01-31 - HTML5We have covered HTML5 in the past, but today I want to list some of its awesome new features and elements that will make our lives, as web designers and developers, a bit easier.

I am sure that, if you are reading this post, you are involved in some capacity with web design and have the most up-to-date version of your favorite (and not-so-favorite for-test-only, looking at you IE) browsers. In case you don’t, shame on you! (Just kidding) But really, upgrade your browser to experience the full awesomeness of HTML5. If you are unsure as to which browser works best when it comes to HTML5, use Chrome (you should use it regardless, really). It rates pretty high on html5test.com.

A Sisyphean struggle

We’ve all experienced this at some point:
You receive an awesome email and click through to a beautiful landing page with a form that needs to be filled out to register to a webinar, download a whitepaper or enter some contest. Everything is going great and you are happily working your way down the form when suddenly your browser crashes, or the browser tab closes accidently, or your internet connection drops, or your battery dies, or your electricity goes out – you get my point. As users, this makes for a frustrating experience. We might go back to the landing page, but there’s a good chance we will abandon the form once we see that we will have to start from scratch. Sisyphus from Greek mythology we aren’t.

Microsoft wants you to like IE 10

As a web designer, I’ve had my share of headaches when trying to make thing look good (or the way they are supposed to) in Internet Explorer, more specifically IE 7 and 8 (6 has heard enough complaints). IE 9 is definitely a nudge on the right direction, but still a long ways away from the greats, Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

Nike+ FuelBand begets FIELD
