LESS is more (than CSS)

Move over CSS, a new language is here to stay!

Well technically its not a language, more an extension of the CSS language, but LESS brings a level of control and flexibility to CSS previously unknown. Developed by Alexis Sellier, more commonly known as cloudhead, LESS is activated through calling its associated script less.js. LESS extends CSS with dynamic behaviors such as variables, mixins, operations and functions. LESS also runs on both the client-side (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) and server-side, with Node.js and Rhino. Because LESS is an extension to CSS, it is not only backwards compatible, but the extra features it adds use existing CSS syntax, making it is simple to learn and letting you use standard CSS where you’re not yet comfortable.

Check out the site to learn more about LESS and its capabilities.

Adaptive Design – Fit for the Future

Posted on by Dan Posted in Coding, Design Tips | Leave a comment

“Responsive web design” was originally coined by Ethan Marcotte in his article by the same name in A List Apart back in May of 2010. He laid out a three-pronged approach for designing and developing websites utilizing three techniques: Fluid Grids, Flexible Image and Media Queries. From these humble beginnings numerous meanings and terms have been coined and developed revolving around the core concept: “Adaptive Design”, “Progressive Enhancement” – all of them sharing the aim of delivering the best possible experience to the widest possible audience.

As the landscape of devices and device form factors continues to grow, this approach of designing and developing flexible and adaptive layouts that respond to all possible variations will prove indispensable. This allows for the development and maintenance of one master site, saving the time, cost and effort of designing and maintaining numerous independent sites.

We have developed a demo of Adaptive Design in HTML5 that degrades flawlessly for full support across older browsers. This demo has been built for delivery across large cinema displays and televisions, laptop and computers, tablet and mobile devices.

New Facebook Feature, New Marketing Strategies

Posted on by Martha Posted in Social Media | Leave a comment

Facebook has announced a number of new features on its site.  In the past the success of a Facebook campaign was determined by the number of Likes a particular campaign received.  It is very difficult to understand the value of a Like, and many studies have been conducted to understand that value.

Facebook has added a new number that will allow us to better understand how many people are actively engaged with a brand’s page, posts, photos and applications.  The “Talking About This” number is a much more valuable number than number of Likes, it shows how many people are actually talking and engaging with a brand.
